Y&R Creative Leaders Join Cannes Lions Jury

As the world’s premier festival recognizing creative excellence, Cannes Lions sets the benchmark for the industry’s best work and attracts more than 15,000 attendees across 90+ countries worldwide. This year, eight of Y&R's creative leaders have been named as jury members in the 64th annual Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

“It’s always an incredible honor to see Y&R’s talent join the creative ranks at the industry’s premier festival,” said Global Chief Creative Officer, Tony Granger. “This year we have representation from creative leaders in each of our key markets. Cannes Lions juries are selected from among the industry’s most recognized and respected creative professionals to review and award the best in global creative communications. Get to know our Y&R jury below:


Jon Burley
Chief Creative Officer, Y&R London
Cannes Lions Design Jury

Jonathan Burley is the Chief Creative Officer of Y&R London. From Shelter’s ‘House Of Cards’ (one of the Gunn Report’s most awarded campaigns of 2009), and McDonald’s ‘Trust’ (winner of one of the first ever Gold Creative Effectiveness Lions at Cannes) to the Lexus ‘Hoverboard’ - the most-viewed automotive campaign of all time and winner of a Gold Cyber Lion in 2016 - Jonathan’s work as a creative leader has garnered some of the highest accolades the industry has to offer. In June 2016, after driving CHI & Partners to the position of most awarded UK independent creative agency at Cannes for the second time, Jonathan joined Y&R London as its first Chief Creative Officer, charged with delivering the creative vision and product for the office. Jonathan has served as both juror and chair on some of the most recognized international awards shows and is consistently voted by Campaign magazine as one of London’s top creative leaders.

Leslie Sims is Y&R’s Chief Creative Officer, North America and a key member of the agency leadership team driving creative vision for brands such as Dell, Xerox, Pepperidge Farm and Cirque du Soleil, among others. A highly awarded creative leader, Leslie’s work has been recognized with Cannes Lions, Clios, Webby Awards, the ADC, the One Show, ANDYs, ADDYs, LIA, Communication Arts, as well as a Gold Jay Chiat Award for Strategic Excellence in Creative Technology. She was named one of the top 10 Chief Creative Officers in the U.S. in Adweek’s Creative 100, one of the top 36 Most Creative Women in Advertising by Business Insider and among iMedia’s Top 25 Marketing Leaders and Innovators. She is behind famous brand icons such as the “Easy Button” for Staples and the launch of Nature Valley “Trail View,” which garnered numerous accolades, including two Gold Lions in the inaugural Branded Content & Entertainment competition.

Mauricio Rocha

Mauricio Rocha is the Chief Creative Officer at Y&R Madrid andMauricio Rocha is the Chief Creative Officer at Y&R Madrid and member of the agency’s Global Creative Board. He has created work for outstanding brands such as Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Opel, Suzuki, Coca-Cola, Johnnie Walker, McDonald’s, Movistar, Telefónica and P&G, among others. He has served on the jury for many of the industry’s most highly regarded advertising festivals and won more than 650 awards. Most recently, he was recognized as one of the Top 3 Best Creative Directors in Ibero-America. Mauricio has worked in Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Colombia and Chicago.

Gabriela Arredondo is a passionate Advertising, PR, Communications and Public Image professional, with more than 15 years of experience across entertainment, public relations and advertising. Since 2005, Gabriela has served as Public Relations Director with Y&R Mexico, where she is responsible for leading the development and execution of highly effective communications programs and driving growth for clients. Throughout her career, she has been involved in the production of many events for top brands including Avon, Bimbo, Expedia, Ford, NBA, NFL, Nike, among others.

Martín “Nino” Goldberg is Y&R Global Executive Creative Director at Y&R Buenos Aires overseeing Telefónica and Movistar. He also serves as the CCO of Dhélet Y&R, a creative boutique based in Argentina, which focuses on local and global projects. Prior to joining Y&R, he worked at LOWE, DDB, MCCANN and TBWA. Throughout his career, he has also led communications for other global brands such as Coca-Cola (creating “Security Cameras” the first spot from outside the US that was featured in the Super Bowl), Visa, The International Olympic Committee, Red Cross, Unilever, among others. He has been a speaker for various forums and his work has been awarded by numerous industry festivals like Cannes, Clio, One Show, London festival, New York Festival, El Ojo de Iberoamérica and El Sol. Martín was selected as one of the Top 35 under 35 years old professionals in Forbes Magazine. He also loves guitars. 


Rafael Pitanguy

As one of the youngest and most awarded Vice Presidents in Brazil, Rafael Pitanguy leads the creative and production department of Y&R São Paulo. His career includes celebrated work with some of the country’s top advertisers in Latin America such as Vivo, LG, Danone, Bic, Honda, Petrópolis and more. Pitanguy’s career is marked by numerous awards from premier festivals such as D&AD, One Show and Clio Sports. He counts among his accolades 25 Cannes Lions, which includes Brazil’s first Gold Lion in Radio. Pitanguy is also a screenwriter on a Sundance nominee feature film and a professor at Miami Ad School/ESPM.

Tom Paine
Executive Creative Director
Y&R New Zealand
Cannes Lions Promo & Activation Jury

Tom Paine is Executive Creative Director at Y&R New Zealand. His work has won 30+ Cannes Lions including two Grand Prix and a Titanium Lion, 7 Yellow Pencils at D&AD, Best in Show at New York Festivals, The ANDYs, and AWARD, and Grand Prix at Spikes, LIA and Clios. His most esteemed accolade however, was being ranked alongside Anthony Bourdain and Gordon Ramsay in Adweek’s 30 Most Influential People in Food for attempting to broker a détente in the Burger Wars. Of lesser culinary bragging rights, his McWhopper campaign was the world’s most awarded campaign in 2016 (Gunn Report / Big Won Rankings) and Tom claimed the #1 Creative Director spot. Having missed his son’s only two birthdays to attend Cannes, his ranking at home has nosedived.
